This all started from a NextDoor post of all things called “Save Venice” where I vented my frustration with our neighborhood after the 1/13/21 fire on Ocean Front Walk. It seemed to me that we needed to get out from under the city of Los Angeles as everywhere not in L.A. was operating well and everywhere within the city was a disaster. The response was swift and I quickly had roughly 100 people involved in the discussion. I was going to move forward with Save Venice but quickly discovered that SaveVenice.ca is an existing group that is dedicated to preserving the history of Venice and its heritage. Not wanting to step on any toes and fully supporting their efforts, I was fortunate to find an alternative in LoveVenice.org
There are many different organizations and colliding voices that exist in Venice. While this is to be expected in such an outspoken neighborhood, we all agree the conditions here are untenable and we have to change it. I’ve heard from numerous people that their children or grandchildren are no longer allowed outside, others have been stalked on runs down the beach or assaulted going to their vehicles. I’ve spoken with people who were here for decades but this is the worst they’ve ever seen Venice. Watching our city leadership fail us by supporting policies that make allow anyone to move into public spaces and trash the area while completely ignoring our pleas for help cannot continue. Simply put, we have had enough. I am dedicated to use this organization to help connect the many groups in the Venice community with a motivated constituency. Together we WILL change Venice for the better.
